More chic then a flip flop, but just as comfy. A Bon Marche staple, this shoe has become my summer go to fashion staple. Originally a 14th century Catalan shoe designed for shepards to wear in the Pyrenees, these jute and canvas slip-ons are still being woven on turn of the century artisan machinery. Not just a shoe for a simple walk in the park, I’ve successfully walked the distance in my brightly colored striped pair. With rubber molded into the rope spiral woven sole I can have complete confidence when I say they’re going with me all summer long – durable, beautiful and affordable quality.
I’ve noticed more and more as I flip through my weekly style magazines, that these once humble local village shoes have started to show up everywhere on the runway. I feel one step ahead with the fashion world when I see my now great investment become the popular must have on all the celebrities. What’s unique about these French Pyrenees’ originals, besides the lovely variety of fabric patterns, is the everlasting quality. Unlike some of the summer knock-offs, these original espadrilles are authentically stylish, sophisticated and oh so comfy. At only $36 a pair it would be silly not to buy two!
A bientôt, Alex
